There are various types of licences to apply for. This is depending on the type. For example, a family home or a shared house.
As part of the application process, they will check that landlords meet their legal responsibilities and are considered "fit and proper persons." This normally include property inspections to identify and fix any potential safety risks for tenants.

- Mandatory HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) Licence
- For properties rented to five or more people from two or more households.
- Additional HMO Licence (Starting 9 January 2025)
- For properties rented to three or four people from two or more households.
- Applications open on Monday, 9 December 2024.
- Selective Licence (Starting 6 April 2025)
- For properties rented to a single household.
- Applications open on Monday, 17 March 2025.
